Shapes can be similar even when they are different sizes. A shape with three sides and three corners is a triangle no matter what size it is. Children learn this by matching shapes of different sizes. This activity helps them learn the characteristics to notice (sides and corners) and the characteristics to ignore (size and color) when they sort by shape.
