Today, we read a story called "The Kissing Hand" by Audrey Penn.
It is a story about a Chester Raccoon who is a little nervous about going to school for the first time. Mother Raccoon helps to ease his fears as she shares with him a special secret - the kissing hand. Mother Raccoon took Chester Raccoon's hand and placed a kiss right in the center of his palm. Chester Raccoon loved his 'kissing hand'. It helped him know his mother's love would go with him wherever he want...even to school!
We discussed how we may feel when leaving Mom and/or Dad to come to school. We discussed how its good to try new things even if they seem a little scary at first...because we may come to find that we really enjoy it! One friend shared, "I think Chester will love school, like we do!"
We all agreed! :)
(Talk about things you and your child can do to make him/her feel better when they may be sad of scared to leave you. Please feel free to share your ideas with me, to help smooth the transition from home to school.)
