Today, we read "Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear?".
We discussed how it was the same, but different from "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?"
We enjoyed acting out the book while making animal sounds during whole group reading. We then had a chance to practice retelling the story during center time.
We also strengthened fine motor muscles as we created a polar bear craft. We had to pinch the sponges and add some "detail"/fur to our polar bears. However, we weren't able to just sponge the polar bear. We also practiced math concepts such as counting with one-to-one, subitizing, and in some cases, adding. With that, we had to roll a dice, identify the number, and sponge paint that many patches of fur on our polar bear. Some students rolled two dice, figured out how many all together, and then sponge painted the total number.
It was a very busy day in Prekindergarten of combining
fine motor work, literacy, and math...all in PLAY! :)
