September 8th was International Literacy Day. GCS is participating in "Lift Off to Literacy", an event presented by the International Reading Association, that encourages all children to participate in an additional 60 seconds of literacy activities for 60 days.
To 'launch' this event in preschool, we created spaceships with our names on it. With this, we strengthened fine motor skills as we glued small paper-manipulatives with precision. We also worked on mathematical understanding as we counted the letters in our names, and worked to glue that many squares for our spaceship (1-1 correspondence). Last, but certainly not least, we worked on letter identification (name identification) as we added our name to our spaceships.
We will be participating in additional literary activities in our "Lift Off to Literacy" mission.
